In The Crucible of Creation, paleontologist Simon Conway Morris describes the marvelous finds of the Burgess Shale--a fantastically rich deposit of bizarre and bewildering Cambrian fossils, located in Western Canada.4/5. Crucible of Ideas is a collection of selected articles previously published in academic journals, as well as papers read at conferences of learned societies in the course of the past forty years.

Various areas of interest are represented: literature, philosophy, educational theory, and history of ideas, with emphasis on Spanish-American themes. In this intriguing book Jenkins offers a description of how ideas long taken for granted as part of Christian and Jewish doctrine were developed during, what he terms, the "Crucible Era" - from the end of Alexander the Great's empire to the beginnings of the second century CE ( BCE to CE)/5(21).

Philip Jenkins, in his new book Crucible of Faith: The Ancient Revolution that Made our Modern Religious World, makes a sweeping claim in the opening pages: “During the two tempestuous centuries from through 50 BCE, the Jewish and Jewish-derived world was a fiery crucible of values, faiths, and ideas, from which emerged wholly new religious syntheses.4/5.

Compare the roles that Elizabeth Proctor and Abigail Williams play in The Crucible. What role does sex, and sexual repression, play in The Crucible?. Why are Danforth, Hathorne, and the other authorities so resistant to believing the claim that Abigail and the other girls are lying.

Main Ideas Setting The Crucible is based on historical events, and thus, reflects the real setting where the Salem witch trials took place: Salem, Massachusetts, a little town on a bay on the north coast of Massachusetts that still exists today. I found this book to be fascinating and once in a while, enlightening.

At some points, it was beyond me but, pushing through, I could catch the jest of the ideas. The authors pull many quotes from many well-known authors and teach the doctrines of Christ in their own s: The Crucible remains a staple of high school English because it is rich in themes that are consistently relevant to human beings regardless of time period.

But these themes aren't always easy to explain or dissect in the context of the play, and they can be even harder to develop into essays.

In his play The Crucible, playwright Arthur Miller employs a fictionalized account of Massachusetts Bay colonists accused of witchcraft in as a metaphor for government persecution of suspected communists during the midth e a character analysis of John Proctor, plot summary, and important quotes.

This book focuses on the North American theater of the Seven Years' War, detailing the socioeconomic causes of the war, the major campaigns in North America, and describes how he war changed the relationship between Great Britain and the North American colonies which will lead to the American Revolution.

Steve Gould (who I met) is more of a dramatist who proposes unconventional explanations, but his ideas often do not correspond to what the solid science says. Simon Conway Morris in this book provides a more up-to-date view of the issues and considers Gould's ideas in the context of the science as widely s: full title The Crucible.

"Crucible of Time" is the sixth book in the series, and I have not read any of the previous novels, so I came into the story fresh. Let me start with my first impressions, and I was confused.
